Baptism In The Name Of Jesus

We here at Rehoboth believe fervently that Baptism must be done in the name of Jesus Christ, the way the Apostles did it. Here is the basis of our belief:

Research has shown that in the entire operation of the Apostles, all the baptisms that were performed were done in the name of Jesus Christ. The Apostles emphatically stated that the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ was for the remission of sins.

There are three (3) scriptures from the book of Acts of the Apostles, which deals with the actions, and operations of the Apostles, which are presented below:

Acts 2: 38 “… and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”

Acts 8:16 “… they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

Acts 19:5 “… they were baptized in the name of the Lord…”

What is Baptism?

Our understanding of baptism is that it is an immersion or burial of one’s complete body in a liquid grave (eg.) Water) we also find that baptism is a command or an order, rather than an option or a choice. See Matt. 28:18, Acts 10 47-48, 2:38, John 3:5.

When we examine St. John 3:5, we see that it is impossible for men to enter into the Kingdom of God if they are not baptized. According to Acts 2:38 we find that baptism in the name of JESUS CHRIST is for the remission of sins. It therefore means that baptism in the name of JESUS CHRIST has the power to remove sins, which further means that the blood of JESUS CHRIST is embedded and carried about in the name JESUS CHRIST, as it is well known to all that without blood, there can be no remission or removal of sins. Heb. 2:9

The Apostles, namely, Peter and John were strictly forbidden by the Sanhedrin Council to preach or teach in the name of JESUS CHRIST, but Peter boldly told them with all certainty that salvation is in no other name, and there shall be no other name… given under Heaven whereby we must be saved. Acts 2:12

Paul also in writing to the church at Collosse told the brethren that whatsoever they do in word or deed, it must be done in the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Col.3: 17. Note that baptism is both words and deed.

Let us turn our attention to the scripture of Matt. 29:18, which states that baptism should be done in the name of the Father. We find the name of the Father to be JESUS CHRIST - St. John 5:43. It further states that baptism should be done in the name of the son, which is JESUS CHRIST-Matt. 1:21, finally baptism should be done in the name of the Holy Ghost, again we found that the Holy Ghost came in the name of JESUS CHRIST- St. John 14:26. When the Apostles departed from the seminar conducted by JESUS CHRIST, then ten days later, they conducted their first baptism using the formula set out in Acts 2:38, and hereafter practice the same formula throughout the entire history of the Apostolic Age.
